The once oh-so British car company was founded in 1922 by Sir William Lyons at Blackpool. Originally called the Swallow Sidecar (SS) Company the name was changed in 1945 to Jaguar Cars. During the war Coventry (where they settled in 1928) was heavily attacked by German artillery. Therefore it took a while before the first new model was introduced. However the introduction of the 1948 Mark V helped Jaguar Cars to recover and even flourish again. New models followed, and also in motor competition they were very succesful. Epic cars were made in Coventry; C-type, D-type and the first XK series.

The biggest achievement however, came in the form of the 1961 E-type. Jaguar claimed that the E-type was fastest car in the world at half the money of other more exotic sports cars. But most petrolheads will name the E-type as one of the most beautiful car designs ever. Famously also Mr Enzo Ferrari named the E-type ‘the mst beautiful car in the world’. This helped Jaguar to sell 70.000 pieces in 14 year. In the late ’60 Jaguar merged into what eventually became British Leyland. Well, we know all how that worked out. However, they still managed to make epic cars; the XJS, XJ220 and more recently F-pace. So this is why Cartrippn’ celebrates this mighty car brand.
