Maserati was founded in 1914 in Bologna by six brothers. Carlo, Bindo, Alfieri, Mario, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati. Hence the name. The brothers started the business by making spark plugs and coils. In 1926 the first race car was born and entered in the Targa Florio. The type 26 was driven by Alfieri Maserati and won outright. After that enormous success business increased subsequently. And, so did the business.

Unfortunately, Alfieri died in a crash in 1932. The Maserati brothers kept on racing. Eventually sold their shares to the Orsi family in 1937 after business was tuff. The brothers agreed to work for the company for 10 more years.

Although they all left after the ending of the contract, Maserati thrived. Many successes were booked in formula one with the famous 250F cars. Sport cars racing with 300 series helped the company to become ever more famous. In 1957 this all ended when Maserati withdrawn from racing after a terrible accident.

After the glorious years came different times. The company was sold to Citroën, oil crisis came, and Citroën went bust. Revival came in the form of new ownership by Alejandro de Tomaso and the successful Biturbo series. Then came Chrysler, Fiat, Ferrari and eventually Fiat Group again. A turbulent history for the brand from Bologna.

Cartrippn’offers products that will help real Maserati fans to celebrate those glorious times. With books, scale models, gadgets and apparels.
